OSEGA’s Boys Team Compete and Conquer NC State Championship
ASHEVILLE, March 14, 2017 — Olympic Start Elite Gymnastics Academy’s boys team came and conquered the 2017 North Carolina State Gymnastics Championship, with an incredible 24 individual championship and a team championship title.
OSEGA’s boys team showcased their success this season through their 143 individual championship titles throughout the season, but state success proves the ultimate test of skill and mental preparation.
The Level 4 team took the state by storm with 10 individual titles and the team title. Level 5 had five individual titles, Level 6 had five, Level 8 had one, Level 9 had two and Junior Developmental or JD had one; an overall astounding success.
Seven-year-old, Level 4, Micah Stewart almost had a clean sweep, with first place on all events, except for vault, where he fell. Even with that set-back, Stewart kept a positive attitude and competed strong on the remaining events, ultimately earning the title, North Carolina State All-Around champion.
“As a team, OSEGA had its best state championship in it's seven year history,” OSEGA Owner and Boys Team Director, Miles Avery said. "I couldn't be prouder of these young men and how they represented Asheville and Western North Carolina at this year's championship.”
While state championship titles are amazing, they are not everything to OSEGA gymnasts and coaches. Self-improvement and growth as an athlete is the priority to Coach Avery.
“The growth these men showed throughout the season is astounding,” Avery said. “The care for each other, the camaraderie, and most importantly, the concern for teammates’ improvement is great to see.”
The care for one teammate with special needs stands out, in particular, to Avery.
“Tait Bergrud has been the recipient of so much of his teammates praise,” Avery said. “He has improved at every competition and had his best competition at the state championships!”
Eleven boys from OSEGA earned the chance to compete in the Southeastern Regional Championships, hosted in April. This is the largest number of gymnasts OSEGA has personally ever sent to Regionals, as well as the most from any gymnastics club in the area.
This unprecedented achievement is another example of the success built by OSEGA’s coaching method. Visit OSEGA’s website, www.osegagym.com, for more information on all of our current programs. If you would like an interview or comments, please contact our press contact.
